Wallace & Gromit digital comic hits half a million downloads

Titan Publishing's Wallace & Gromit digital comic has taken the iPhone by storm with over half a million downloads of its first free app - and the company is surely hoping to repeat the success with its release on the new PSP comics service.
Since its launch last month, Wallace & Gromit digital comic has reached number one in the UK free books app store, a first for a British comic and has also risen to the number three spot overall in the free apps chart -- a cracking feat and no mistake.
In addition to the free app success for the release - Titan's first foray into digital comic publishing - all four paid for Wallace & Gromit comic apps have been within the top 20 paid apps in the UK book chart since their launch in November.
The comic is also currently the number one free book download in America and Canada and number 2 in Australia.
"We've been amazed at how well our first app has done," commented Wallace & Gromit digital comics editor Ned Hartley. "Wallace & Gromit is such a great brand, and iPhone users obviously love them as much as we do!"

Robot Comics Launches Crude Behavior Kindle Graphic Novel
Robot Comics have just announced the release of the 128 page Kidd Millennium collection Crude Behavior for Amazon's Kindle, written by Ron Callari and drawn by Joe Donohoe.Kidd Millennium is the unofficial heir to R.F. Outcault’s 19th century newspaper comic sensation, The Yellow Kid. In this epic Graphic Novel sized outing, the kidd goes after the ‘War on Terror’, Energy Committee, the no-bid contracts, the PSAs (Production Sharing Agreements), Government-employed mercenaries, outing a CIA Agent, the firing of US Justices and the relinquishment of Civil Liberties. The denouncement actually unveils the creators’ best guess for the next president of the United States to be elected in 2008 (and which, now, after you read this Graphic Novel, you’ll be able to know if their prediction came true or not!).
Robot Comics describe Crude Behavior as "one of the first books to expose the current geo-political scene in vibrant colour (or in this Kindle edition’s case, is 16 slick shades of grey). Other exposes can be found, but none that slice the clash of beliefs and the pursuit of oil with as much vigor and humour."
• Crude Behavior: A Fundamental Tale as Told by kidd mullennium #Complete Graphic Novel, written by Ron Callari, art by Jon Donohoe, adapted by Chris Northrop and Dave Baxter is available for download for $4.99 for Amazon Kindle 1 and 2.• Kidd Millennium web site

Tony Lee-penned Lady Action Exclusively on Panelfly

Moonstone Books, Captain Action Enterprises and new Mobile Comics publisher PanelFly have announced their ‘Sneak-A-Peek at Lady Action’ promotion, offering readers an opportunity to download the entire comic inspired by the Captain Action figure range and written by Brit creator Tony Lee for free – before it goes on sale nationwide.
Lady Action Special #1, by Tony Lee and US graphic designer Jake Minor will go on sale on 30th December 2009, when the comic will still be offered online, but at the standard $.99 price.
"We think fans will be very impressed by this sneak peak of Lady Action," enthuses Ed Catto of Captain Action Enterprises. "It’s a cool story with some surprises and strong art."
The special showcases an espionage adventure featuring the sexy British spy, Lady Action. While she's a part of the Captain Action mythos, fans need not keep up with regular series to enjoy this done-in-one adventure.
Written by Tony Lee, who PanelFly describe as being well known for his wit and sense of style, both in his writing and his international jet-setting, Lee balances excitement with a wry sense of sardonic humor.
"One thing the comics world has been missing recently is a beautiful, kick-ass, sarcastic and sultry temptress who can shoot the wings off a fly and kill a man with her thumbs. Oh, and did I mention that she just has to be British...?" says Lee of the character.
Newcomer Jake Minor supplies some fab-looking art that moves the tale along at a breakneck pace and Captain Action Enterprises are delighted to offer the Special for free as a thank you to Captain Action fans who have embraced his revival.
"Let’s face it – it’s been a tough year for everyone," says Ed Catto. "This free comic is also meant to be a nice little present for the fans who’ve made our Captain Action reintroduction such a success."
• Consumers can download the free issue exclusively on Panelfly at panelfly.com/lady-action

Super Kaiju Hero Force from Crispy Comics
Crispy Comics has launched their first iphone comic title, Super Kaiju Hero Force available now for free in the iTunes store but will go paid for Christmas. Crispy Comics is a new mobile-only publishing company, devoted to producing comic books, art books, and other content that revolves around sequential art and pop culture. Casey Lau and Jeff Kwan are long-time collaborators who had their paper-comic career come and go in 1998 with Oktomica Entertainment. The two then jumped into the web with flash animated comics and now here they go again with mobile comics.
"The new publishing venture was founded in 2008, the day after we got our first 3G iPhone," the pair explain on their web site. "We skipped the first version but were grooving on the iPod Touch, which already was an amazing godsend. Inspiration struck 11 1/2 minutes after we started playing with it! What if we could set it up so that comics could be downloaded onto this coolest of cool devices?
"... Apple has really opened up the future of distribution," they continue. "Amazon is doing the same with the Kindle. Other developers like Google and Palm are following Apple’s lead. While we’ll miss the smell of old paper and sending our copies of Youngblood #1 to CGC to grade to try to recoup some of the losses we suffered form all of those Image comics we bought in the early 90s, it really just comes down to a medium where we can get our ideas out to the widest number of people in the most immediate way possible."
• Use your iPhone to go to www.kaiju.mobi to get all the issues while they are still free. More stuff coming from Crispy in 2010.
